What is this place and how do I get out of here?

Tch. [There's a loud thud and someone who looks like a Rocket Grunt appears on the screen for a while before getting up and running away. It's then when the owner of the gear notices the device and picks it up. He doesn't point it to his face - instead you can see a Purrloin.]

Looks like any of the guys here aren't off help. How about any of you?

Well, what can you tell me about this situation, then? Other than the obvious that we're not home anymore.

Well, first of all. You're in the region of Johto, there's a separate region Kanto, that is adjacent to Johto. However, the path is blocked so you will have to use the train or the boat to get there. Johto seems to be in another dimension, and pulls people from all over the space-time continuum here. It's just as likely to meet someone from your past as it is to meet someone from your future. There seems to be a lack of purpose here, if you are not on Team Rocket, which you are, besides to raise pokémon, which are small animals with extraordinary powers. You should have been issued two upon your arrival.

Rockets are generally under the control of Team Rocket, an organization that's interested in conquering Johto for its own purposes.

[Well that's certainly a lot of information.]

What has the team done for the sake of conquering this place, then?

[licentious]

They've commandeered both radio towers, and have launched several nefarious attacks against pokécenters and other important places for trainers and breeders of the good variety. [ And they also control the Vermillon shipping industry, but that's another story for another time. ]

I'd say that's pretty impressive. We must have a lot of enemies.

Not really. Most of the townspeople ignore our actions or lament them but don't specifically oppose them. Some people that have been pulled from other worlds oppose this team, as does the police force here.

You'd think the natives of this world would have done something about the team already... but I guess they're as useless as the guy I just met.

[licentious]

That's quite correct. The only reasonably competent individual appears to be Nurse Joy, and that's only because she heals and is a fantastic resource for information about the world itself. Not so much our predicament.

Hmm... I see. [So there were at least some competent people, then.]

[licentious]

Regardless, you will find many competent people who are in the same situation as yourself, and they're excellent resources.

How long have people even spent here? I'd figure you need to stay here a long time to know a lot.

I've been here for about a year and a half now. It's been the longest eighteen months of my life. [ And she's been alive for like, 200+ years, okok? ]

Sounds like it.

I'm sure if you stay here that long it'll feel much longer than it actually is for you. Especially after one of the more ... [ What is the right word for this... ] unusual events that happen in this region.

What kinds of events are we talking about?

[licentious]

Well, they range from the silly and mundane like extra, excessive feelings of amorousness afflicting everyone to the more serious, like being possessed by dead human spirits who, for some reason, are also pokémon.

Sounds like this place can be surprising, then.

In a simple sentence, yes. But this place goes well beyond "surprising" and sometimes right into absurd.

It's a vacation for some. A not so nice intermission for others. Is it needed? Well, there's always growth to be found. [ Except for this hypocritical sourpuss here. ]

In some ways, you just adapt without really trying. There's no other way to go about it, really. You get over the shock of everything around your third month.
